Universal Children’s Day
After our assembly on Universal Children’s Day, Year 5 looked at the different articles contained in the document of children’s rights. They discussed each article with their partner and then organised them into different groups. The children thought carefully and collaborated really well together.

Parents Group talk about the Rights of a Child
Our Reception Class Parents Group held a debate looking at the convention of the rights of the child. It was a lively debate – just like Question Time on the TV! Afterwards they were joined by Mr Morris and the Reception children.

What Makes a Good Friend?
During Anti-Bullying Week, Year 5 were thinking about what makes a good friend. The children collaborated to collect ideas then turned these into posters and potion bottles to go on our Harry Potter themed display. Here are some pictures of the children’s ideas.
WW1 Remembrance Display
During our Remembrance work we created charcoal pictures and added red poppies to them. The finished pictures look fantastic and are now up on display for the whole school to see.
Mayan Enquiry Display 2018
The week before our half term holiday was Mayan Enquiry Week in Years 5 and 6. We found out lots about the Mayans and worked collaboratively and creatively. Mrs Seville has made a fabulous display to show some of the work we did during the week.

Children in Need 2018
Today we supported Children in Need by wearing non uniform and donating £1. We learned more about the history of Children in Need and about the people that they help and support. We then designed a cupcake which could be made for a charity bake sale.

To celebrate this years’s Children in Need, and also to mark the end of Antibullying Week, Beal Vale is having a non uniform day. The children have loved coming to school in their own clothes and donating to such a wonderful cause.

Latics
After our second week working with Jack from Latics we are progressing well. We have been learning about teamwork and how to be a successful team. Today we played a game which needed good communication skills, speed, interception skills and good team spirit.

World War 1 Research
As part of our WW1 work last week, Year 5 used BBC Bitesize to find out more about the war. The children loved exploring the site and were fascinated by the things they found out. They made notes as they researched and then made a report about WW1. Here a few of the finished reports.

Sketch Book Work – Charcoal
Before we created our Charcoal Remembrance pictures last week, we experimented with charcoal in our Sketch Books. First we watched a couple of video clips about how to draw with charcoal and then we tried out some of the tips and techniques we had learnt. Here is some of the work we did.

Adding Poppies to Our Charcoal Pictures
Today we coloured and added red poppies to our charcoal WW1 pictures. They are a lovely mark of remembrance and we can’t wait to see them up on display.
